I’ve recently read Untamed by Glennon Doyle. This is the third book of Glennon’s I have the privilege to read.

I came to reading Untamed after seeing Glennon Doyle on Instagram (yes, I am a devoted follower) promoting her book. I loved the cover perhaps more than any other cover in recent reads and felt I needed to complete my Glennon Doyle collection.

I like Glennon’s writing for several reasons. The main one being that it’s conversational, like mine. I feel like I can read her voice and feel her heart through the letters printed on the paper. Her truths are the second reason I love her writing. She faces her truths head-on or she faces the fact that she’s not facing them head-on. I love it!
Untamed is a book of short stories of her narrative that continue the work of her life that she shares with us since Carry On, Warrior and Love Warrior.
Overshare: I bought this book 3 times before reading it. I gave it as two gifts – yes, before reading it, and one for myself. The reason I bought them for those loved ones is because I felt that Glennon would have the right words and share her way through her pain. I was right. Both of my loved ones were very grateful.
Glennon’s short story format allows for really easy reading. Each section stands on its own, yet weaves together with all the rest beautifully.
- Completedness: Yes. The book stands on its own. You don’t really need Carry On, Warrior, Love Warrior or her Instagram to get her message – though they are helpful in understanding where she’s coming from.
- Design: I LOVE THE DESIGN! Inside and out, the book works.
- Easy Read: Very easy to read. The short story format is wonderful.
- Editing: I don’t know what this book would have been like without an editor, but I feel the editing is great.
- Enriching: YES! In the world of knowing and embracing ourselves, understanding ourselves and sharing living with others, this book was very enriching. We all live pain, but the way Glennon holds our hand through pain is pure.
- Entertaining: Yes, Untamed is entertaining. I read it pretty fast because I was engaged and switched on.
- Happy Read: Totally. I left this book feeling happy.
- Keeper: Well, even if it was just for the cover, I’d keep this book! I love the words, obviously. But the cover really is fabulous.
- Share: I bought this book three times before reading it! 3! Needless to say, I’d share it more after I read it than before 😉
- Well-written: Yes. I like conversational writing and Glennon invites us into her world.
Reality check: This book is not for everyone. If you do not like memoirs, move along. If you don’t like messy stories, move along. If you don’t want a light on preconceived notions, move along.
This book is a friend.
Enjoy 🙂
