You know, wellness and well-being videos, books and articles have A LOT of advice on how to get ourselves focused and balanced. A. LOT. Frankly, it’s kind of crazy! There is amazing wisdom at our disposal 24/7. We live in a pretty impressive time!
I was recently thinking about how each wellness author took their own path to wellness, developed their own process and share it in their own way, and that’s beautiful, but hard to do everything everyone is suggesting. Well, it’s impossible.
Which lead me to: “There’s got to be an simpler way! There has GOT to be something, like 3 things, we could remember every morning that would totally help us live our best day.”
Which then, lead me to: “3 is great, but what about 1 thing?”
Today, I’d like to read a book about the core of wellness and keeping it simple. I’d like this book to be super-short and good for as many people as possible 🙂 (Is that possible?)
Let’s do this!
Do you remember the very first time you encountered the world of self-development?
When I was reflecting on this, I had three questions for myself:
- What are the most helpful self-development words I’ve ever heard/read?
- What was my introduction to self-development?
- Is it possible to have a universal way to bring wellness simply and through few words?
Overshare: When I was a tween is probably when I started to hear about self-development. Frankly, it seemed to always be portrayed as something silly that only weak people need and called “Self-Help”. Buying the books, listening to audios and speaking out about it were all somewhat looked down upon.
There was, and still is, a stigma attached to helping ourselves through the guidance of others.
Sidenote: AA, as an example, started in 1935. It’s been almost 100 years! Can you believe it?!?! Yet there is still resistance and a stigma surrounding the program, the idea of AA members seeking help out of weakness, and the misunderstanding why and how it works for some. But, ultimately, it helps some people. There is much debate about how many people it truly helps, but even if it helps a few people, it’s worth it, right?
The world of self-development is vast. We can’t expect them to all stick for each of us. It’s somewhat like the journey of choosing the restaurant we like, then, selecting the item we like most on the menu, and figuring out the best combo of side-dishes, main course and dessert.
Here’s the thing: We need food, right?
So, is it an unreasonable stretch to say that we might need a small foundation of self-development keys to help us when we need it?
(Maybe, but I thought I’d give it a shot)
The Goal
I like the idea that anyone and everyone can have something to help them if they need it. They don’t have to use it all the time, just when they need to, while those who wish to have a regular self-development routine can keep on going and growing as much as they want 🙂
I’d like there to be 3 things that we can remember and source when we need it, then, I’d like there to be 1 ultimate thing.
(I know, wishful thinking…)
3 Daily Reminders
What is the most simple approach to well-being?
In order to answer this, I felt that we benefit from looking at what makes a lifestyle habit simple and doable:
- Regularity: Do it daily, preferably at the same time
- Easy to remember
- Does not feel like yet another chore
Having 3 simple daily reminders is a great way to keep on track or to add to our day when we need it.
- Gratitude: “I am grateful that I am breathing, I am grateful for this day.”
- Heart & Soul: “I feel my heart and listen to my Soul. I love my core self.”
- “Joy, Happiness, Peace & Freedom” (a big favorite of mine): These 4 words are designed to work together to guide us in connecting with each word and its meaning then, moving on to the next one. By slowly repeating them, we ground Ourself with Joy, Happiness, Peace and Freedom.
Sidenote: In all the options I was entertaining for the Top-3, I considered: , breathing, smiling, silence, body scan, meditation, water, knowing that we make good choices for Ourself, writing, self-massage, making Ourself a priority, doing something we like, walking outside, read an important text we connect with, shake it off, give a compliment to someone and/or do something nice for someone, …
The 3 keys I listed above might not be what works for you. We get to build our own menu. The important thing is to know yourself well enough to build your own Top-3 and make it accessible.
1 Thing: I Am Here
Now: Ourself, Place & Time: I am living this moment and breathing in this moment: I AM HERE.
I AM HERE in this moment.
I AM HERE in this place.
I AM HERE in this body, this heart, these bones, these muscles,…
I AM HERE with my Soul, with my Self.
This affirmation is meant to reflect that we connect with our core self and the present, but also that we amplify our presence.
I wish you all the very best and I hope that you always find the tools you need if and when you might need them.
Enjoy 🙂
Karine
